This "entry level" wine, made from one of Montalcino's most iconic producers, is better than most Brunellos.
In 1953, Vincenzo Abbruzzese's grandmother purchased a small plot of land in northern Montalcino. By the time Vicenzo graduated from eonology school in 1987, he officially purchased the property from his grandparents. With meticulous vegetation management so that each grape will enjoy the perfect amount of sun and his very careful attention to detail in the cellar, Vicenzo's Rosso di Montalcino is one of the best available.
Vinous
“Vincenzo Abbruzzese's philosophy is deeply rooted in the vineyard, located on the northern side of Montalcino, where he focused on the land and vines first. His low yields and meticulous selection remains some of the most severe in Italy, and is in large part responsible for the rich, structured, intense Brunellos of Valdicava. What’s often misunderstood is that the elegant textures and dark colors of Vincenzo’s wines are often thought to be the result of an international style or small oak, but that is not the case…The vinification at Valdicava has always remained traditional, aged in cask (not French barrique), allowing the identity of the estate’s terroir and Vincenzo’s vision of ideal Sangiovese fruit to shine through.”
