Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Description
S.L.V., also known as Stag’s Leap Vineyards, is the winery’s first vineyard. Today, this vineyard continues to produce wines with layers of complexity, spicy intensity and excellent structure.
TASTING NOTES
The 2021 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon offers generous aromas of black currants, mocha, olive, figs, and a touch of espresso. A rich mouthfeel, and a dense, balanced core, lead into a lengthy finish with flavors of dark chocolate, blackberry reduction, and a touch of oak.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Enjoy with Steak Diane, Grilled Hangar Steak with Chimichurri, Duck Confit with Roasted Figs and Polenta or Mushroom Ravioli with Arrabiata Sauce.
Wine Spectator: 96 Points
Rich and well-fruited, but with a touch of restraint, as boysenberry, blackberry and cassis notes move slowly and steadily, flanked by suave hints of alder and warm earth and backed by subtle echoes of violet and savory on the finish, with a gorgeous mouthfeel. Drink now through 2040.
Vinous: 96 Points
"This is a fine set of 2021s from Stags Leap Wine Cellars. Over the last few years, winemaker Marcus Notaro has gradually moved these wines away from the heavier, opulent style of the past towards an approach that favors more refinement. I expect that will continue now that the Antinori family fully owns the winery."
"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. is a dark, virile wine. Black cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, incense, graphite and dried herbs lend tons of savory/mineral nuance to this powerhouse Cabernet. Big, sweeping tannins wrap it all together in style. This muscular, deep Cabernet Sauvignon hits all the right notes."
