Merry Edwards Winery Description
The Richaven vineyard is located at Merry Edwards’ home ranch, just a half-mile from our Meredith Estate vineyard in the Sebastopol Hills. It has full benefit of coastal morning fog and cooling afternoon breezes, an ideal location to grow Pinot Noir. This vintage of Richaven has an enchanting perfumed nose, with floral aromas of rose and exotic hibiscus, as well as subtle toasty oak, cocoa, vanilla cola, black pepper and tobacco. In the mouth, sweet oak and red fruit notes support round, rich and very structured tannins. Bittersweet chocolate, bay leaf and thyme linger on the finish.
Vinous: 96 Points
The 2022 Pinot Noir Richaven is super-impressive. Rich, sumptuous and explosive, the 2022 is the most overt wine in this range. It's a style that works so well in exalting the natural exuberance of the Russian River. Dark fruit, mocha, licorice, incense and mocha all build into the dense, palate-staining finish. There's not much subtlety there, but that does not seem to be the goal, nor does it matter, to be honest.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
The 2022 Pinot Noir Richaven Vineyard has expressive aromas of pomegranate, rhubarb, mossy bark and grapefruit. The medium-bodied palate is bursting with fragrant berry fruit. It’s structured by grainy tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, citrusy finish. It opens dramatically with air and will benefit from an hour in a decanter.
