Marietta Cellars Description
A huge expression of tar, cocoa powder, violets and structure, this Syrah-based wine is brightened by vibrant Grenache, lengthened by Petite Sirah, and lifted aromatically via co-fermentation with Viognier. Named and styled after Marietta’s founder, Chris Bilbro, this wine is gentle but powerful, pleasurable but deep, and refined while raw.
Blend: 63% Syrah, 28% Grenache, 6% Petite Sirah, 3% Viognier
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2017 Christo, Marietta's Syrah/Grenache-based red, is another compelling wine in this range. Inky red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, mint, spice and floral notes are front and center. Sumptuous and racy, the 2017 is so inviting from the very first taste.
Wine Enthusiast: 92 Points
Concentrated and well structured, this deeply colored and effusively spicy wine grabs attention with its flavors of graphite, black cherry and iron, while woodsmoke, black pepper and cloves swirl across the palate. Based on mostly Syrah and Grenache, it is quite firm, moderately tannic and should age well. Best from 2025.
