Wine Advocate: 97 Points
This is an outstanding wine from Le Ragnaie. The Brunello di Montalcino Ragnaie V. V. 2020 shows an inescapable mineral definition. The fruit comes from the estate's oldest vines, planted in 1968 on sandstone soils (with quartz inclusions) at an altitude of 600 metres. The bouquet is bright and fragrant, but the wine also has a saline or harsher note that gives it a good run to age and evolve. I love its elegant structure. Only 3,800 bottles were produced.
Vinous: 96 Points
The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino V.V. seduces with a darkly floral blend of withered violets and stone dust that fades to pine shavings, spiced orange peel and crushed blackberries. It's elegant, with silky texture and polished red and black fruits riding a wave of fresh acidity, while purple flowers gather inside towards the finish. A hint of potpourri resonates over a bed of fine-grained tannins as a bitter hint of citrus and blackberry slowly fades. The 2020 V.V. is the most complete and classic wine in Le Ragnaie's range this year - in a word, mesmerising.
Wine Spectator: 95 Points
An impressive red, this boasts black cherry, raspberry, orange peel and fresh green herbal flavors. Everything is underscored by a dense swath of tannins, yet this remains balanced and integrated overall, with its youthful exuberance needing a few years to mellow. This persists with lasting ripe fruit and mineral elements.
Decanter Magazine: 95 Points
With candied citrus fruits and ripe dark plums, the old bottling of Le Ragnaie expresses the warm south-western location of the 50-year-old parcel more clearly than the fresh altitude of 600 metres - at least on the nose, where woody nuances of vanilla and nutmeg emphasise the ripeness. On the palate, however, it shows its spicy side with iron and dusty tobacco. It is robustly built, has its typical strong tannins and will need time to harmonise in the cellar.
