Domaine des Escaravailles Description
With the Côtes du Rhône Villages Roaix "Les Hautes Granges," Madeline Ferran takes her hat off to the great Syrah wines of the northern Rhône. However, the vines in Roaix are planted not on granite, as there, but on clay and limestone. In Les Hautes Granges, the Burgundian finesse of a Côte-Rotie meets the rustic power of a Cornas. All the Syrah markers are present: the scent of violets and black pepper, a hint of bloody meat, and the taste of cassis, olives, and dark berries. We recommend pairing this with a hare pepper.

"Ripe red and black fruits, roasted garrigue, graphite, and ample crushed stone-like notes all emerge from the 2022 Roaix Les Hautes Granges, a rocking Roaix that has medium to full body, a terrific sense of freshness, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. As always, this cuvée is all Syrah from the clay and limestone soils of the Les Hautes Granges lieu-dit and was destemmed and is still aging in just 10% new barrels."
