Domaine Robert Chevillon Description
Classic Nuits, the most structured wine in their book, legendary ager.
Vinous: 94-96 Points
The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru, the last Premier Cru to be served from barrel, has the finest nose: mineral-rich black and red fruit with exquisite detail. The most precise of Chevillon's Premier Crus. The medium-bodied palate offers ripe red fruit laced with marmalade and blood orange. It’s a little spicier than the Les Saint-Georges and grainier in texture, with a dash of brown spice on the finish. Outstanding.
Burghound: 93-96 Points
A more reserved nose grudgingly reflects notes of poached plum, earth, plenty of sauvage character and interesting whiffs of crushed star anise. There is a bit more minerality present on the vibrant and intense medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent delineation that carries over to the firm, compact and tautly muscular finish. This youthfully austere effort is going to require extended patience as it's both backward and very tightly wound yet oh so promising!
Wine Advocate: 93-95 Points
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains is inky and serious, unwinding in the glass with notions of dark berries, cherries and plums complemented by subtle hints of rose petal and violet. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, with an imposing chassis of rich, powdery tannins, this will, as ever, reward patience. Domaine Robert Chevillon is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy, producing hearty, characterful wines that stand the test of time. Old vines, cultivated soils, moderate yields and long macerations at comparatively high temperatures with entirely destemmed grapes are the order of the day at this address, with the Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes seeing some 20% new oak and the premiers crus 30%. Nuits's Tonnellerie Sirugue is the dominant supplier of barrels.
