Cantine San Marzano Description
The San Marzano "Edda" Chardonnay Bianco Salento IGP is an elegant and distinctive white wine from Salento, located in the heart of Puglia. Produced by the San Marzano winery, which has been crafting quality wines since 1962, this wine reflects the region's Mediterranean influence and the winery's commitment to tradition and innovation. The name "Edda", meaning "she" in the local dialect, emphasizes the wine's delicate and feminine character. While primarily made from Chardonnay, the blend includes small amounts of native varietals such as Fiano and Moscatello Selvatico, adding complexity and a touch of aromatic richness. The wine is partially fermented in French oak barrels, enhancing its texture and imparting subtle notes of vanilla and spice. Edda offers a bouquet of ripe stone fruits, citrus zest, and white flowers, with a hint of almond and a touch of mineral salinity that reflects its coastal origins. On the palate, it is creamy and full-bodied, balanced by fresh acidity and a persistent finish, making it versatile enough to pair with seafood dishes, white meats, or creamy pasta. San Marzano's focus on showcasing the unique terroir of Salento shines through in this wine, offering a modern take on the region's winemaking traditions while celebrating the richness of the local landscape
Luca Maroni: 99 Points
San Marzano ‘Edda’ Bianco is straw yellow in colour with golden reflections. On the nose, ripe peach, smooth vanilla and floral notes perfectly balance the fresh lime, mint and herbal complexity. The palate is generous and full of elegance, freshness and minerality. This wine is beautifully rounded with an exceptional well-balanced palate.
James Suckling: 90 Points
Floral and fragrant, this white has notes of lychees, melon, white lavender and peaches. It’s medium- to full-bodied, supple and peachy.
