History - This is a really special wine, hailing from the island of Madeira it is one of the few rare examples of dry Verdelho coming to the United States. Verdelho grapes are usually earmarked to become sweet Madeira wine, but in some harvests they are better suited to a dry table wine like the 2021 Broadbent Branco. The wine is produced in the dramatic mountains of Madeira island, embraced by cool salty breezes and bright tropical sun in volcanic soil. This wine, which is 91% Verdelho and 9% Arnsburger, delivers the typical acidic punch that Verdelho is known for and develops a beautiful layer of honey as it ages. It can stand up well to spicy food but also brings refreshing minerality to fatty dishes. This is absolutely a drink now wine, served chilled with thoughts of tropical islands.
Tasting Notes - Citrus color, fresh citrus and tropical fruit, sea breeze and mineral notes. Medium bodied on the palate with refreshing acidity. Some bottles may develop notes of honey on the finish.
Pairing suggestion - Grilled seafood, Azorian cheeses, Indian food.
