A blend of 90% Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) and 10% other native grapes of the area (Rossola, Pignola), harvested from several estate vineyards and fermented with native yeasts. 20% is 2019 unoaked Nebbiolo, 80% is 2016 Nebbiolo aged in large cask.
A juicy, and bright “Mountain red”, loaded with aromas wild berry and small flowers, great structure and yet super easy-going.
Balgera Nebbiolo Description
A piece of black slate from the dry walls of Balgera’s terraced vineyards. Sitting amongst the Italian Alps, vineyards in Valtellina offer the perfect example of heroic mountain winemaking. Based on Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo), these wines provide impeccable elegance and a unique, austere yet graceful character. The vineyards here are planted on terraces along the southern-facing slopes of the Adda river which plays a moderating influence on the region’s climate. Wines made from grapes grown at high elevations at times are the hardest to come around, but in the best vintages, they are elegant and ethereal, poised with the tension of a ballerina in mid-pirouette.
